Pit Bull Haters Exposed

Jeff Boofhead Borchardt and his pearls of wisdom "One does not have to "train" fighting breeds to be violent"

Well the Dj seems to think he's some sort of K9 expert consistantly making outlandish false claims about dogs in general but particularly pitbulls one of his big speels revolves around his claims that pitbulls don't have to be trained but are born knowing how to fight which as we all know is nonsense.

Now a quick google search regarding training dogs, for the purpose we'll look at herding dogs Jeff claims are born knowing how to herd ?(infantile I know), I google "how to train a herding dog".

Excellent comment. Although I disagree with one part. One does not have to "train" fighting breeds to be violent. Most pit bull owners are shocked their dog attacked.

  • Tony Solesky There are two types of dog training. Obedience training , which is the lording over a dogs natural impulses to do something it wants instead of what you want. This training is limited to one master. Must be done constantly ,with enforcement and like ei...See More

    • Jenny Pollman Spot on Tony Solesky. My Brittany pup just came home from 3 months of training. And it throws people off that he's not "obedient". What they don't understand is he was sent off for bird dog training. Not obedience training. The training he received was to enhance his pointing skills, "birdie ness ", hunting skills. Not obedience.

    • Tony Solesky Here is a little irony. Yesterday, Irene and I decide to take the dog for a run up in PA. Only about 30 miles north of where I live in Maryland. It rained the whole time. So we stop on a busy busy no tree in site highway to get a milk shake. I let the dog out on a leash to take a rest break. She freezes and won't budge. I forget she may be pointing and tug on her leash. She won't budge. So I say go easy girl but she does not budge. I figure rabbit in hedge. I take one step and out fly's two doves. It happened when I least expected it but her nose was correct. Years ago I used to let quail go in my neighborhood of city row homes. At night I would take the dog out to get them. My dad said how is the dog going to see them? I said she never sees them even in the day time, she scents them. They hold tight and I would crab net them from behind trash cans and under cars. Then after w week in a recall pen they would just return to it on there own.

  • Carol Miller I have to modify what Tony has said about obedience training. Done well, obedience training gives a dog the skills to exist within a community as a pleasant, reliable, and safe companion. Rock solid recall? This is not lording it over a dog but rather a skill that can save the dog's life at a critical moment. Sit and Down? Skills that add to the social acceptability of the dog. Heeling? Makes walking through the community a pleasure for both the dog and the handler. Obedience is life skills training and is in the best interests of everybody.

  • Tony Solesky Carol Miller, I totally agree, I have some difficulty writing and establishing context of what I am thinking. What I am saying by using the term lording is that these are not commands natural to a dogs instinct. (except as an instinct of submission to an alpha. I am saying that the dog may never actually understand that these commands are for it own benefit from hazards in an environment that it does not understand the danger. This is why I use the term Lording. in one instance and direction in the other instance where the dog actually instinctively interpreters the environment sometimes even better than the master. In pointing dog situations and SAR they teach you to trust the dog. I can;t tell you the number of times my dog would not break a point I had commanded it to relocate on. It technically disobeyed me. Then suddenly a grouse pops out literally right where I just had walked through. I hope this makes sense.

  • Carol Miller I agree Tony. Both my dogs and my horses have made decisions that were far better than the one I had made, and trusting them kept me out of a whole heap of trouble.

  • Jeffrey Sloan I agree Jeff - it's a serious misunderstanding to assume that pit bulls must somehow be "trained to be violent" when the facts of the matter clearly indicate that no such training is required. The old "all in how you raise them" myth is responsible for a whole lot of pain. People have a false sense of security because they raise their pit bull with love and affection. and having drunk the kool-aid, they "socialize" it and do all the right things - and one day the pit bull turns on and does what centuries of selective breeding have pre-disposed it to do, and they are dumbfounded, standing helplessly while their well-behaved "family pit bull" tears apart a victim and will not stop.
