Pit Bull Haters Exposed: AJ Ravinsky Its a shame because when I worked in shelters in the 1980s, people with common sense usually ran them. Nowadays, since the pit nutters have all infiltrated shelter boards and staff, its not safe to work in a shelter anymore OR adopt a dog from one. When we look for another dog, it won't be from a shelter, sad to say. If they would "rebrand" a pit, what else will they do that to? Aggressive cats? Vicious chihuahuas? Any other animal hard to place?

AJ Ravinsky Its a shame because when I worked in shelters in the 1980s, people with common sense usually ran them. Nowadays, since the pit nutters have all infiltrated shelter boards and staff, its not safe to work in a shelter anymore OR adopt a dog from one. When we look for another dog, it won't be from a shelter, sad to say. If they would "rebrand" a pit, what else will they do that to? Aggressive cats? Vicious chihuahuas? Any other animal hard to place?

Sarah Howard Yes, just ignore labels and roll the dice.... for real. If you get a shelter dog that says mixed boxer, mixed lab, mixed rodesian ridgeback.... you best know you may be scammed. For me, I want to know whos living in my house and I pay attention to labels but I do my research before opening my door.

Heidi Schold I see a lot of Lab Mixes that look like the Staffie a.k.a pit (showdog) that attacked my dog at the local shelter these days... they should be held accountable. Funny I used to contribute to the local shelters but now I feel i'm just feeding/taking care of pits and pit mixes since the shelters are full of them, use my money for other purposes

Lynne Smith Sent in an email to the shelter: I wanted to alert you to a post on Flathead County Animal Shelter, Flathead Shelter Friends Facebook page. The person posting seems to have a problem with those who give weight to breed traits, to the point where the frequent use of such terms of "ignorant" "shameful" and "hater" are being used. I tried to talk to this person about the importance of understanding breed traits, and while they agreed, quickly resorted back to talk of stereotyping (which is the whole purpose of breed traits) and more name calling. I tried to explain that an adopter not choosing a dog due to the inability to handle breed traits was not a bad thing, and that such name calling was detrimental to adoption efforts overall, I was declared a troll and the conversation deleted. It seems you have some loose cannons over there that are not well versed in canine genetics nor good manners, and someone should discuss how these things look to the public at large. Thank you.
