M.j. Brandt

I came across this site, facebook page is Adore Houston. Abuse to animals makes me sickened and angry, but the amount of $ spent on "fixing" some of these dogs is unreal. Estimated cost to "fix"Apollo is $8,000 to $10,000. So many pets and families could be helped with that amount of $. Abuse is wrong, but trying to save every abused animal is wrong too. In my opinion.http://hendrickboards.com/save-apollo-ar...

Apollo: Missing part of his face due to extreme abuse

Apollo was found in an area of Houston common for stranding dogs in the city. Starving and tired, Apollo sat next to his brindle friend who was already dead. The ADORE team, an animal rescue based in Houston, found him and rushed him to...

Lisa Black For godsake--what's the point? Just put the poor thing down. It's not like it's Stephen Hawking. It's not going to go on to make some major contribution to society. People are idiots.

M.j. Brandt I agree, the $ spent is ridiculous. They are a non-profit group so I am sure it is from donations. I love animals, but euthanasia is not always the worst Option. There are several rescued, abused animals on this site that are missing limbs and are horribly maimed. They seem to have a few mislabeled pits up for adoption too.

Lisa Moyer it is just an example to prove that is all. why put that poor dog through all that much more pain? It is experimental surgery.

Joanna McGinn They seem to be the most abused and worst abused as a group...it seems that persons who have or are attracted to these dogs are the worst of society in the 'dedicated' nutter class.

Lisa Black Yeah, I'm figuring "extreme abuse" is a euphemism for dog fighting.

Dusty Brown Bull crap! Pits are notorious for attacking all types of vehicles. Somebody told me of a neighbor that had a Pit Bull missing his lower jaw. Why? Because the fool Pit Bull attacked a moving tractor trailor's tires and got it ripped off. Despite having no lower jaw, it continues to attack the tires of moving vehicles. This is unlikely from abuse but just another fine example of the breed doing the deed.

Heather Clemenceau The most humane thing to do is to put this dog to sleep. I'm so tired of seeing fundraising campaigns for animals with 3rd degree burns over 80% of their bodies, wimpering as their bandages are changed, or the equivalent. It is an act of kindness to humanely euthanize any animal with substantial injuries.

Lisa Black The dilated pupils on that dog indicate pain, and I'd expect a missing nose is quite extremely painful. They're not doing the animal any favors by forcing it to stay alive. It's all about them, and feeling like they're heroes.

Dusty Brown Please don't confuse Animal Rights Activism with Pit Bull Activism, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Heather Clemenceau I wish more people understood that Dusty. Pit bull advocacy usually must, by its nature, ignore injuries to other pets and livestock, which isn't even an animal welfare position.

Lucy Muir pit bull advocacy doesn't make any sense. But if you call it pit bull ownership advocacy, then their actions make sense. They are striving for the inalienable right to own pit bulls no matter the cost to pit bulls, pets or human society.

"We rarely if ever see other dog breeds portrayed with such fawning attention but it has become the norm to portray pit bulls with a cloying sentimentality. Perhaps pit bull advocates, authors, journalists, and photographers should engage in a virtual co-therapy session, which might lead them to the self-discovery that they are over-compensating for something."

Tamara Timmermann it's in the lingo alright, I just found this ~~~Vanilla Bean is a lover. She enjoys cuddling, giving kisses and being pet. She is a 'soft' dog (is submissive with people). We are not sure how she is with other dogs or cats yet. Although she has passed by lunging dogs and hissing cats without any negative reactions.
