- These puppies are inbred and their parents killed a jogger. This spells trouble ahead. The puppies seem to have a good temperament now, but their temperament will change when they reach maturity. Every day, thousands of puppies and dogs are killed due to lack of homes. It is too risky to have saved these puppies, when puppies with no family history of extreme human aggression are being euthanized. Genetics make a huge difference. Last year, two Bull Mastiff-Pit mixes from the same litter killed people. I did rescue for years, and learned that genetics overrule environment when it comes to dogs.
- This is a rider's nightmare, and I know someone who experienced an attack like this. Muzzles on the pits would have protected the horse, but the horse would have still panicked and fled. Thankfully, the rider, her daughter, and her horse will be okay. It could have been so much worse.
- Thank goodness this man and his dog will live. The neighbor is truly a hero. This horrible attack follows the deaths of a 4 year old and 7 month old baby, both by Pit Bull attacks. Very tragic and totally preventable. No one should ever have to experience this. Those who survive are never the same.
- Poor man! Prayers for him and his family. This insanity and completely preventable tragedy has got to stop. Blood sport dogs were NEVER meant to be pets. Hoping this gentleman recovers with as little misery as possible. And kudos to the heros who stepped up to save him.

While I agree that there are irresponsible owners of all breeds and mixes, irresponsible and/or clueless owners of bully breeds can lead to tragic results. Most bully breed owners rave about how sweet their dog is until the dog attacks. Most have no idea that maturity generally causes a change in attitude towards other dogs. Some don't "flip" until 10,11, or 12 years old. I have spoken to quite a few former pit owners and former pit rescuers (including myself), who ended up seeing the breed for what truly are. You never hear of bullies that are actually used for fighting getting loose and attacking people. That is because the dog fighters know what they have and take precautions. The biggest danger to the public is the naïve pit advocate who believes that these dogs are just like any other. They are not. Dogs bred for blood sports generally have a much higher prey drive and no "off" switch.
The pit that attacked this toddler did not attack when the toddler hugged him. The pit attacked after the toddler had started to walk away. A normal dog would have snapped at the toddler. Dogs bred for blood sports go for the kill and don't stop. This was a horrific mauling and typical of the daily attacks done by bully breeds.
As a former rescuer of this breed, IMO, they need mandatory spay/neuter until they go extinct. They were never meant to be family pets. Contrary to the myth that all human-aggressive pits were killed, seven of the leading sires in this breed were known "Maneaters". They were not killed even though they were dangerous to humans. The kingpin of American dogfighting lost his own 2 year old nephew to his prize pit bull.
